Web app
The ThroughLine web app is a helpline search platform hosted on a unique URL. The web app provides a ready-to-use user interface to connect people in crisis to support, as well as clinically-reviewed psychoeducation information for 23 topics.
Use of the ThroughLine web app requires an agreement with ThroughLine. Don't yet have an agreement? Get in touch. Integration of the web app is straightforward and covered in our article, Integrate the web app.
Yes, we will provide you with a real-time Impact Dashboard displaying key metrics including the number of users, sessions, helpline contacts, country distribution, engagement metrics (rate, time), access patterns, and most-used helplines/topics. No personally identifiable information is collected through the web app, so no such information will be shared.
The ‘Quick Exit’ button is designed to help users leave the site instantly if they feel unsafe or need to close the page discreetly. This is especially important for people accessing support in sensitive situations—such as those experiencing domestic violence, suicidal thoughts, or other crises—who may be monitored by others or feel vulnerable being seen on the site.
Clicking the button immediately redirects the user to AccuWeather.com, a neutral and commonly visited website. ThroughLine has chosen AccuWeather because it's:
- Non-suspicious and familiar – unlikely to raise concerns if someone else sees it open.
- Fast to load and consistently reliable.
- Free of sensitive or triggering content, ensuring a safe redirection.
Examples of how someone might use the Quick Exit:
- A person searching for help with suicidal thoughts while a family member is nearby.
- A user exploring resources for domestic abuse while under surveillance by a partner.
- Someone in a shared workspace or public computer who doesn’t want others to see they’re accessing mental health support.
Including this feature is part of ThroughLine’s commitment to trauma-informed design and user safety, giving people more control over their experience when seeking help.
The emergency services number feature shows a quick-call button for emergency services only in countries where suicide is decriminalized. It is not shown in locations where suicide is illegal or the legal status is unclear. Based on the user's IP location, it displays a single, verified emergency number, prioritizing ambulance services to minimize risk and ensure appropriate care. All numbers are sourced from official government records, verified by three sources, and reviewed every 9 months. To protect user safety, this feature cannot be removed.
